Al Green: Let's Stay Together

AlGreen6

One of my favorite singers of all time is Al Green. He's got a magnificent voice. Let's Stay Together is such a classic song that I love so much. Not any connection to the Rat Pack at all that I know of, but I really dig this tune.

Let's Stay Together hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1972. It remained on the chart for 16 weeks. It also topped Billboard's R&B chart for 9 weeks. The song has been ranked 60 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. A cover version of the song by Tina Turner would pave the way for her comeback in the 1980's.

This video clip is from the
Apollo Hall of Fame Concert in 1993. I hope you enjoy it too. The audience is definitely get into the song big time. Cheers!

  2. His voice is like heaven and butter and doughnuts and lovin' all wrapped up in the soulful sound that could only be laid down by a man like Mr. Green. One of my favorites, and always entertaining.

  17. I have long been a fan of Al Green. Speaking of other bands doing Green songs, The Talking Heads did Take Me To The River.

  19. What a great video. I don't think I've ever seen Al Green perform that live before. I love the Tina Turner version. I love when an artist can ad-lib throughout a performance and still retain the majesty of such an iconic song. Thanks for the video, Keith.

  20. Hey Erma. Thanks for the comments. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I thought it was a good performance by Al Green. I wanted to post a worthy video when I did this particular blog post. I think I found a nice one. I love Tina's version myself. I'm a huge fan of hers. I do like when singers can ad-lib through a song too. Dino was always good at that. Cheers!
