Andy Warhol Had More Than 15 Minutes Of Fame
I want to start a new feature here on the blog. I plan to cover from time to time some of my favorite artists. I hope you guys will enjoy this series of posts. I decided to start with Andy Warhol. I think most people have seen one of his paintings at some point in time, whether you realized it was done by him or not. You've also probably heard someone talk about "15 minutes of fame," which was coined by Warhol.
Andy Warhol (1928-1987) was an artist of many talents. He was not only a painter, but a photographer, sculpturer, author, film director, music producer, magazine founder, etc. He helped define pop art. He could paint everything from brand name products to celebrities. His paintings were very diverse, including things such as soup cans to flowers to guns to electric chairs. The Factory, the name of Warhol's studio, was definitely an interesting place to be during the 1960's. He was surrounded by everybody from bohemians to celebrities to aristocrats. There's never been another artist quite like Andy Warhol. I'm fascinated both by this man and his work. I hope you will enjoy these pictures I'm posting as a selection of his art.
Growing up in this part of the world, I don't know much about Andy Warhol although I've heard of his name and knew that he was an artist. But recently, I happened to watch on TV a movie about him during The Factory days, starring Sienna Miller. Can't remember who was the actor playing him. He had quite a weird yet interesting & talented life.
ReplyDeleteoh my, i love his work!
ReplyDeleteGreat post....like the one of the Duke....Thanks for your comment....
ReplyDeleteHey Petite. Thanks for commenting. The movie with Sienna Miller was Factory Girl. Guy Pearce played him in that move if I remember correctly.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kat. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteHey Gingey. Thanks. That is a good one. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteHe showed us a new way of seeing what he had already been looking at. A soup can is no longer just a soup can.
ReplyDeleteStunning post, K! I was an Art History major in college so this is right up my alley! I had never seen Warhol's Brooklyn Bridge before so thank you for posting the lovely pic!

Warhol is one of my favorite artists as well--probably my favorite of the 20th century. Great selections, his style was one of a kind.
ReplyDeleteI agree...Andy Warhol's fame is everlasting; eternal. Love his work! :)

ReplyDeleteJ'adore his work.

XoXo
Great idea for a series- and what a great artist to start with!! I adore Andy Warhol, he's definitely one of my favorites!
ReplyDeleteYou cannot even think of mentioning American pop culture without making reference to Andy Warhol. I followed the art of one of his proteges, Jean Michel Basquiat, for many years. The influence Warhol had on this young man's art was evident. The art was a commentary on the consumerism of the times and is just as relevant today.
ReplyDeleteI think this is going to be a very interesting feature. I look forward to more.
Have a great week and thanks so much for stopping by.
Great idea for a new batch of posts. Warhol really did some terrific work. Love the banana, with reference to a truly great album.
ReplyDeleteWonderful post Keith! I love Warhol - I like all his work from the graphic designing and illustrating he did early in his career right up to the silk screens - he was certainly one of the 20th Century's great iconic artists.Hope your weekend is going well!
ReplyDeletewarhol is just one of the best contemporary artists of all time. his works have influenced pretty much everything.
ReplyDeleteone of my favorites series he did is the electric chairs. and the car crashes. i guess i lean towards the grim subject matter -- but he could just make things -- even grisly things -- look so cool.
Andy Warhol is a true force in the world of art. Great breadth of style in his work. Nicely done Keith, I'll be looking forward to the next one.
ReplyDeleteThe Dino Lounge keeps getting better & better. Keep up the great work, Keith!
ReplyDeleteAndy was the epitome of the "superstar". I need to see if I can find "The Factory" on dvd.....
ReplyDeleteAndy Warhol is one of my favorite artists of all time. I think he was so brilliant, and I LOVE that he didn't really care so much about what other people thought.

ReplyDeleteWishing you a fantastic Monday & week ahead,
♥ Jessica
Great title for you post Keith. Warhol was indeed varied. Did you see the Bible I posted a while back that I called "The Warhol Bible"?

thanks for visiting my blog , my weekend was really bad , lol i hate holidays, being alone in home is very boring
ReplyDeleteGreat new feature. As an Art Historian I'm excited to see some of the more obscure artists you like!
ReplyDeleteFABULOUS post
ReplyDeleteI think this is a fab new feature. I love art. This one particularly fits in well with your blog because of the Hollywood crossover (ie, he did many famous celebrities).
ReplyDeleteAlthough I am more into impressionism and the art of the Renaissance, I still think he made his ultimate mark on the art world. He was eccentric and different, a quality I have always found intriguing in people.;)
ReplyDeleteI love your blog..i love Andy...
ReplyDeleteLove his work
Glayki!
Great idea Keith - and what a start Andy Warhol was a genius, and so inventive. Have you checked out any of his movies? Frankenstien and Dracula are worth a peep at this time of year.
