I am a huge fan of Cary Grant. He is my favorite actor from classic Hollywood. Cary was great in all kinds of movies, everything from comedy to romance to drama to suspense. His credits include The Awful Truth, Bringing Up Baby, His Girl Friday, My Favorite Wife, The Philadelphia Story, Arsenic and Old Lace, Notorious, To Catch A Thief (my favorite movie of his), An Affair to Remember, North by Northwest, That Touch of Mink, Charade, etc.
He was a handsome and talented actor. Cary had such great style. He was so suave and debonair. He was one of those men that had good looks and a sense of humor. He could make a girl laugh just as often as he could make her fall in love. He wasn't afraid to take on the Hollywood studio system. Cary was the first actor to pick his own movies, directors & co-stars. He also took a percentage of the gross from his films. He did not want the studios to control every aspect of his life like they did for the other stars of that era. Nominated twice for Academy Awards, he was finally honored in 1970 with a Lifetime Achievement Oscar. Alfred Hitchcock, who couldn't care less for actors, said that Cary was the only actor he ever loved. There are so many things about Cary that I admire. Cary Grant is definitely one of my top idols of all time.
This post just made my day, Keith!
ReplyDeleteI literally worship Cary Grant (and not just because we share the same name!). Thanks for posting all these amazing photos. Mr. Grant is positively dreamy; a paragon of style and class!

Agneta...the swed.... you know o;)
Goodnight
The man had style like no other. Pure and absolute class!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, every man on earth needs a pinch of Cary Grant in him. I've got female patrons as young as ten at the library whom love Cary Grant movies and make their parents check them out for them.
ReplyDeleteThough I also think Jimmy Stewart is awesome. And living legends like Dick Van Dyke.
Hey Agneta. Thanks. I'm so happy that you enjoyed these photos. I thought these were a good collection to show what Cary Grant was all about.
ReplyDeleteHey Jami. Thanks. I've been a big fan of his since I was a young boy. I discovered his movies as a kid and saw all of them I could. There was also something so amazing about him. I do love Jimmy Stewart too.

ReplyDeletenice post - North By Northwest remains my favorite of his films
ReplyDeleteDapper!
ReplyDeleteI think Cary Grant was the word "PERFECT". My favourite actor too. A great post and great photography.
ReplyDeletelove the one of him with Sophia. And why can't men still dress like this? Well, not even like this, but at the very least put forth an effort. Men's fashion has become so boring and complacent.
ReplyDeleteGreat choice of post a true gentleman, in every way.
ReplyDeleteHe has those eyes that just makes girls fall in love with him. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a valuable and admirable line up of photos Keith:)
ReplyDeleteHe most definitely has it all going on. A definite sexy all of his own.
He could have been my Knight in Shining Armour anytime :)
Fabulous post Keith !

ReplyDeleteIf we can only be as classy as Cary Grant!
The last photo is amazing... It was posted on facebook just today by one of my friends. What a coincidence! Makes me want to watch The Philadelphia Story right now. I am glad to see that not only women worship Cary ;-)
ReplyDeleteI so love Cary Grant. My favorite movie is The Philadelphia Story.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love the quote from His Girl Friday when Carey uses his real name: "Listen the last man that said that to me was Archie Leach just a week before he cut his throat."

I couldn't agree with you more - Cary was the dapper gent - I especially loved him in "To catch a thief" and "North by North west" - I love the photos you have of him here - that one of him striding across the road in "To catch.." and the one of him in the rain!! Just gorgeous - thank you Keith another brilliant post!! (must add you to my blog roll!!)

ReplyDeleteHey Allison. Thanks so much. That's fantastic that you are such a big Cary Grant fan. He's definitely such an amazing actor. He could do all sorts of films. I think that's great about raising your future kids on his movies. I would do the same myself if I ever had any kids.
ReplyDelete"He could make a girl laugh just as often as he could make her fall in love."
ReplyDeleteThat right there says it all about who Cary Grant was and what sort of man he was for everyone individually. He really is a timeless classic... nobody can ever compare to the man or actor that was and is Cary Grant...
Oh, btw, I love that third pic you posted of Grant... it's simply beautiful!
Your title truly says it all - and I could not agree more. Cary exuded the sort of suave, gentlemanly class and style that is harder to find than water in a desert. He was a man among men and a prince in the eyes of women everywhere :)
ReplyDeleteStellar post, Keith, thank you so much for putting it together!
♥ Jessica
I agree! Great post and a set of stunning pictures. My favorite movie of his is "North By Northwest".;)
ReplyDeleteHey Daniela. Thanks so much. I'm glad you liked what I wrote. I thought that got at the heart of Cary. He could play the romantic lead, but also do screwball comedy. I really like that picture too. I'm happy you enjoyed this post. Cheers!

ReplyDeleteyou've nailed it there Keith - Fred Astaire was another one with that classic Hollywood style..
ReplyDeleteDid you ever see Gerry Anderson's post-Thunderbirds project Captain Scarlet - The main character was voiced by a Cary Grant soundalike. with other puppets modelled on Sean Connery and Brigitte Bardot - have a peep on Youtube (you want the sixties puppert version not the new animated show)
I hate to admit this, but I don't think I've ever seen one of his movies. I've got to change that.
ReplyDeleteThese are fabulous photos of Cary Grant. I adore him. I love that first one. I also love the one of him with Sophia.
ReplyDeleteHey Dave. Thanks. I love Astaire too. I want to cover him here at some point. I just checked out Captain Scarlet. That is so cool. I've added it to my Netflix queue.
