James Bond Is On Her Majesty's Secret Service
One of my favorite James Bond films of all time is On Her Majesty's Secret Service from 1969. This is the only film to star George Lazenby as 007. I actually think he held up pretty well under the unenviable task of stepping into Sean Connery's shoes as Bond. The film also features one of my favorite Bond girls in Diana Rigg as Tracy. I could see why Bond fell in love with her. Critics and fans tend to still be divided on Lazenby as Bond and the film itself. I think it's a shame he never played Bond again. For those who have seen this film, what do you think of it? What do you think of Lazenby as Bond?
Here is the title sequence for the film. I love the theme song for the movie. It's instrumental which is quite the departure from the rest of the franchise.
Here's a video someone made featuring We Have All The Time In The World by Louis Armstrong, which is the love theme of the movie. This is such a beautiful song.
P.S. Thanks everybody for visiting my sister's blog Chic Femme. She is so thrilled with all the great response she's gotten. She's been checking out many of your blogs as well. ReplyDeleteI agree with Carrie! One of my favorites, too!
ReplyDeleteTo many this is the greatest Bond ever, it's in my top 5.
ReplyDeleteAlways wished George had done at least one more Bond he really needed to be in Diamonds Are Forever.
Lazenby hunting down Blofeld would have had more meaning and drama.
Can never get enough BOND! Very Cool!

ReplyDeleteHey Meraldia. Thanks. Glad you're a fan of OHMSS.
ReplyDeleteHey Drake. Thanks. Definitely one of my top Bond films. I do wish he would have done at least one more. I would rather Lazenby in Diamonds Are Forever than Connery. There would have been more impact and meaning there.

ReplyDeleteI love old Bond movie, very classic.
ReplyDeleteIt happens I love this one is my favorite.
Happy Sunday to you!
Hanh,
Favorite rat packer??? Dean Martin, baby! That's a no-brainer. Although Frank comes in a close second..
ReplyDeleteJoey's last, I'm afraid. Did he sing??? Or do anything?
Hey Hahn. Thanks for commenting. I'm so happy that you love this particular Bond film.
ReplyDelete*Sigh*, movie posters used to look so much better than they do nowadays. And I must say I think Lazenby was highly underrated. He was actually a really good Bond! Hope you're having an amazing weekend :)
ReplyDeleteHey Joe. Thanks. Glad that Dino is tops for you. He's definitely leading big time in this poll. I think Joey wrote some of the material they used.
ReplyDeleteHey Dapper. Thanks. I love these type of movie posters. It's a shame they don't make them like this anymore. I agree with you on Lazenby. He doesn't get the credit and recognition he should. He was a really good 007. I'm having a great weekend. Hope you are too.
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU FOR YOUR KIND COMMENT

ReplyDeleteIf Sean Connery was Bond in that particular movie, no doubt in my mind OHMSS would have been the best one of the series bar none.
ReplyDeleteStill, my favorite has always been Diamonds Are Forever
i love james bond =]
ReplyDeleteHey JB. Thanks for commenting. I think a lot of people had trouble accepting anybody other than Connery. It didn't matter if it was Lazenby or somebody else.
ReplyDeleteThanks Amoramor.
ReplyDeleteThis is actually one of my favorite James Bond movies as well. I do wish that George would done another one or so. I love the Louis Armstrong song.
ReplyDeleteI really like the instrumental theme for this movie.
ReplyDeleteHey Phoebe. Thanks. I'm glad you are a fan of OHMSS. The Louis Armstrong love song is so beautiful. I do wish Lazenby had done one or two more at least.
ReplyDeleteHey Wolf. Yeah, I think it's a very powerful song.
ReplyDeleteI loved George Lazenby. On my old blog I did a Bond Awards post, it was huge! I watched every film in order over a week 1/2, it was insane. Then I made up awards. I wish I could e-mail it to you, you'd love it.
ReplyDeleteHey E.K. Wow. That sounds so cool. I love that idea. That would be great if you could have emailed it to me. I'd love to have seen it.

ReplyDeleteHey Janet. Thanks. Glad you liked it.
ReplyDeleteHey Maggi. I hope you get a chance to see it. This movie was very different from other Bond films in many ways, including the lack of gadgets.
ReplyDeleteBond is like the biggest thing ever here in the UK, hubby is a huge huge huge fan
ReplyDeleteNo one can compare to Connery. Although I never quite bought the Roger Moore Bond. Too wimpy, without a hint of badass
ReplyDeleteHey Housewife. Yeah, I bet Bond is huge there in the UK.
ReplyDeleteHey Scandalous. Connery was always my favorite. I do think he was a lot more manly than Moore.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely adore that movie poster! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Erika. I think it's very cool.
ReplyDeletelol@ur post title. yeah, i love ur sister's blog! cool.

ReplyDeleteand i am following your sister's blog. :)
I love this Bond movie. Great blog post btw. It was a great change to see a Bond that could really fight. I love Roger and Sean but he could put it to Telly Savalas.
ReplyDeleteI think the montage with the Louis song made it for me. Diana was ultra cool - did you ever watch "The Avengers"? I caught that in reruns and laughed myself silly.
ReplyDeleteTHE choice is Dino, of course. He was charming, funny and talented. Plus mysterious compared to the other rat packers. A still waters quality.
I never saw this film, but I am LOVING the movie poster, and the theme song also! =) I'm really glad you posted this up!
