James Bond Is On Her Majesty's Secret Service

06-On-Her-Majestys-Secret-Service-1969

One of my favorite James Bond films of all time is On Her Majesty's Secret Service from 1969. This is the only film to star George Lazenby as 007. I actually think he held up pretty well under the unenviable task of stepping into Sean Connery's shoes as Bond. The film also features one of my favorite Bond girls in Diana Rigg as Tracy. I could see why Bond fell in love with her. Critics and fans tend to still be divided on Lazenby as Bond and the film itself. I think it's a shame he never played Bond again. For those who have seen this film, what do you think of it? What do you think of Lazenby as Bond?

Here is the title sequence for the film. I love the theme song for the movie. It's instrumental which is quite the departure from the rest of the franchise.

Here's a video someone made featuring We Have All The Time In The World by Louis Armstrong, which is the love theme of the movie. This is such a beautiful song.

P.S. Thanks everybody for visiting my sister's blog Chic Femme. She is so thrilled with all the great response she's gotten. She's been checking out many of your blogs as well. 5. To many this is the greatest Bond ever, it's in my top 5.
Always wished George had done at least one more Bond he really needed to be in Diamonds Are Forever.
Lazenby hunting down Blofeld would have had more meaning and drama.

  15. *Sigh*, movie posters used to look so much better than they do nowadays. And I must say I think Lazenby was highly underrated. He was actually a really good Bond! Hope you're having an amazing weekend :)

  17. Hey Dapper. Thanks. I love these type of movie posters. It's a shame they don't make them like this anymore. I agree with you on Lazenby. He doesn't get the credit and recognition he should. He was a really good 007. I'm having a great weekend. Hope you are too.

  24. If Sean Connery was Bond in that particular movie, no doubt in my mind OHMSS would have been the best one of the series bar none.

Still, my favorite has always been Diamonds Are Forever

  25. Hey JB. Thanks for commenting. I think a lot of people had trouble accepting anybody other than Connery. It didn't matter if it was Lazenby or somebody else.

  43. Bond is like the biggest thing ever here in the UK, hubby is a huge huge huge fan

    ReplyDelete
  44. No one can compare to Connery. Although I never quite bought the Roger Moore Bond. Too wimpy, without a hint of badass

    ReplyDelete
  45. Hey Housewife. Yeah, I bet Bond is huge there in the UK.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hey Scandalous. Connery was always my favorite. I do think he was a lot more manly than Moore.

  54. I love this Bond movie. Great blog post btw. It was a great change to see a Bond that could really fight. I love Roger and Sean but he could put it to Telly Savalas.

  55. I think the montage with the Louis song made it for me. Diana was ultra cool - did you ever watch "The Avengers"? I caught that in reruns and laughed myself silly.

THE choice is Dino, of course. He was charming, funny and talented. Plus mysterious compared to the other rat packers. A still waters quality.
