007 On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Plus Poll Results
One of my favorite James Bond films is On Her Majesty's Secret Service. This 1969 movie was the only one to star George Lazenby as 007. I've seen so much mixed reaction over the years about Lazenby and this film in general. Personally I love it. I think it would have been hard for any man to step into the shoes of Sean Connery. It didn't matter who the actor would have been. I thought Lazenby did a good job though. I loved the chemistry between him and Diana Rigg (who played Tracy, the woman Bond fell in love with and married). Telly Savalas is my favorite actor to have played archvillain Blofeld. The setting for the movie was so beautiful. I really enjoyed both the ski chase and car chase sequeneces. I also loved the music for the movie, whether it was the instrumental theme song or the love theme by Louis Armstrong. Here are some photos from this Bond movie. Have any of you ever seen it? If so, do you like it or not? Let me know what you think.
P.S. The James Bond poll is now closed. And the winner is ...? Sean Connery! I don't think that would be any surprise to anybody. It sure wasn't to me.
Here are the results:
Sean Connery (53% with 24 votes), Daniel Craig (15% with 7 votes), Roger Moore (11% with 5 votes), Pierce Brosnan (11% with 5 votes), Timothy Dalton (4% with 2 votes) & George Lazenby (4% with 2 votes).
Sean Connery was an overwhelming winner. Daniel Craig as in second place. Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan tied. Timothy Dalton and George Lazenby tied for last place.

Keith:
ReplyDeleteInteresting that Daniel Craig came in SECOND...would have thought Brosnan would have.
I guess the "return" to a grittier Bond worked well.
As to OHMSS - I always liked it better than most ALL of the Moore and Dalton movies.
Less gadgets, and more wits to deal with.
And the bobsled chase is classic!
Good post and poll results.
Stay cool.
These photographs have convinced me to see the James Bond films - so fabulous!! :)

Ms Rigg is worth renting the movie. It is a good one and you're right Sean was no surprise!
ReplyDeleteNice shots. I've written a book about the making of the movie - it's a really fascinating story. 600+ photos, interviews, storyboards, etc.
ReplyDeleteCheck it out if you get a chance.

OHMSS is one of my favourite Bond films. For me, Lazenby did a decent job in, sadly, his only Bond appearance.
ReplyDeleteThis was a really good Bond movie. Great post!
ReplyDeleteOn Her Majesty's Secret Service was my favourite Bond film, too. Poor old George was sadly underrated.
ReplyDeleteGreat post, the pictures are fantastic.. Love the 60's clothes.

james bond 007!
ReplyDeleteWhile Lazenby is not my favorite, I very much agree with you that he had THE impossible task to step in as the first replacement for the popular Sean Connery. That being said, this is the best story for that early segment in the series, and Diana Rigg remains one of my favorite Bond Girls. They do have a wonderful chemistry on-screen, though it is said the two of them did not get along off-screen. Thanks so much, Keith, for the post, the poll, and your thoughts about all of this.
ReplyDeleteVery lovely pics..!!.
ReplyDeleteI always love james Bond, esp Pierce Brosnan (remind me to Remington Steel), he's so handsome and funny at the same time..
thanks
i love this photos...

I think that the reason that most people don't like this Bond film is because it has such a different vibe from all of the others... What with Bond committing and all. I personally am a fan, though!

I love James Bond films...great post. This film is brilliant!:)sarahD
ReplyDeletejames bond. been a long time since the last time i watched those. haven't seen this one anyway :)
ReplyDeletePeople always seem to trash George, but I think it's overly harsh because they always compare him to Connery. As far as Bonds go, he was actually pretty good!
ReplyDeleteit's such a stylish film too...

ReplyDeleteThese pics are fabulous! I've never watched Her Majesty's Secret Service all the way through. I'm going to try again, though. I'm not surprised that Sean Connery won the poll. He was definitely the quintessential Bond!

This is my all time favorite Bond movie. I think Lazenby isn't given his due. Daniel Craig is my second favorite Bond and coming in third is Sean Connery.
