Fonzworth Bentley Called The Hip Hop Sammy Davis Jr.
I'm always intrigued to find those men of today who are cool and stylish. They hearken back to the Rat Pack era. Fonzworth Bentley has got to be one of those gentlemen. I'm not sure how many of you have ever heard of him. Mr. Bentley's real name is Derrick Watkins. He first burst on the scene as the personal assistant of Sean "Diddy" Combs. Bentley would make appearances on Diddy's reality series Making The Band 2. He also appeared in quite a few music videos for various artists. Fonzworth Bentley is the host of the MTV series From G's to Gents. He has also released both an album C.O.L.O.U.R.S. and a book Advance Your Swagger.
Mr. Bentley has been called by himself and others a hip hop version of Sammy Davis Jr. He definitely sees that hip cat Sammy as one of his role models. He speaks quite often of the fashion and style of the Harlem Renaissance. It's great to see a modern day man doing his part to revive the art of the gentleman. I'm posting a lot of pictures of Fonzworth Bentley so you get a chance to see what he's all about. I'm also posting the music video of his song Everybody (which features Kanye West & Andre 3000) and a video of him on the set for a Giant magazine shoot.

Hey K,
ReplyDeleteHope you had a great weekend too!
I would definitely take Mr. Bentley's advice on looking polished ~ wow, great photos!
My little bro, who is getting his MFA at Yale, sent me this clip of Eames in 1956 and I thought of you...

Hey Carrie. Thanks. I had a great weekend. Glad you enjoyed the photos of Mr. Bentley. He's definitely someone I would listen to.
ReplyDeleteThanks for that clip. That is so cool. I appreciate you sending it my way.
Take care. Cheers!
These are some amazing photos of Mr. Bentley. I like him a lot. I should get his book for my husband.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos! I have always loved Mr. Bentley's polished look. Some men have a tendency to look forced when they dress like he does. However, Mr. Bentley pulls this look off effortlessly!
ReplyDeleteCheers,
C

ReplyDeleteGlad to see you're a fan of Mr. Bentley. He's definitely cool and stylish. I wish more men would dress like this. I wish I dressed more like this. Have a wonderful week.
He looks like he has a sense of humor too, which is good.
ReplyDeleteAlways in a jacket and looking very cool. Nice photo's.
Thanks for dropping by too and taking time to comment :) DJ
I love these photos...this guy always looks so fly and he seems like such a gentleman...
ReplyDeletehope you're having a great weekend!
Handsome and dapper...♥
ReplyDeleteHey DJ. Thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting. I enjoyed reading your take on Mr. Bentley. I definitely agree with you. You are welcome about my comment at your blog. I like it there.
ReplyDeleteHey Chessa. Thanks. I'm glad you liked these photos. I think he's a classy and cool gent. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteThanks Gabbi.
ReplyDeleteI love Bentley's style completely but I don't see him as such b/c he's not an entertainer in that regard and style wise, you can see flashes of Sammy but not to the point where you start to question Bentley's originality.
ReplyDeleteI love Kanye West too but seeing him and T.I.?!) instead of Bentley on GQ's top 10 best dressed men in America let me know the list was a farce.
Hey JFK. Thanks for your thoughts. I had been wanting to cover Bentley on this blog anyway, but I really decided to go for it after reading the comparison to Sammy. I do think that list was a farce as such lists tend to be. There are always people up there that I think should not be.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this blog! You are one very hip guy. So glad I found this little piece of fun -I will be back-but I will dress up first :)

ReplyDeleteWow, Mr. Bentley's style is just fabulous! I never realized how far he's come from being Diddy's umbrella carrier! :) These are fabulous photos!
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a great weekend, Keith!
Amazing post, darling!

ReplyDeleteSorry I haven't been by in a while, but I'm feeling much better and happy to be back!!

ReplyDeleteHey Liz. Thanks. Great to hear from you. I've missed reading comments from you. It was wonderful to see you again. I'm glad you are back. Plus I love your blog. It's always great to see new posts from you. Oh yeah. Mr. Bentley and Dapper Kid are definitely on the same page.
ReplyDeleteHey Janet. Thanks. Glad to see you like Bentley and these photos. I hope you will have a great week.
ReplyDeleteHey Gingey. Thanks. I wish that others would take some advice from Bentley. I want to myself. Enjoy your Monday.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean. Most of the men I know pay very little attention to their looks. Its cool to see a guy who takes so much pride in himself.
ReplyDeleteHey Heavenly Housewife. Thanks for your feedback. I agree. Most of the guys I know don't seem to give a flip what they look like. The sad thing too is that many of their girlfriends or wives don't care either.
ReplyDeleteHe's so effortlessly suave and has clearly mastered the art of swagger... fantastic images!
ReplyDeleteHello Bella. Thanks. I love the way you described him. So true.
ReplyDeletehe's the only guy i know that still wears a bowtie besides my husband! good to know!
ReplyDeleteHe looks great, I especially like him in light color suits.
ReplyDeleteHe's quite dapper!
ReplyDeleteHope you had a great weekend, Keith :)
Hey Diana. I've never really worn a bowtie myself. I don't think I could pull it off. I think some men do it justice.
ReplyDeleteHey Savvy. Thanks. I know what you mean. Take care. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteHey Ela. Thanks. Yeah, he does. My weekend was great. I hope yours was too. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteI've been a fan of Mr. Bentley's since I was 11 - possibly younger. Tres talented! :)
ReplyDeleteHey Erika. That's cool. You must be quite young then.
ReplyDeleteOh, I remember him from the P.Diddy days when he used to run around with an umbrella over his boss' head. And I always admired his impeccable style, though to be honest Mr. Diddy has pretty good taste when it comes to style and probably wouldn't surround himself with men who dressed like slobs. I had no idea he had gotten that famous though. His book would be a fascinating read. Thanks for sharing! And I hope you have a great week ahead!
ReplyDeleteHe really is an incredibly smart dude, I would love to hang out with him one day. Hope you had a wonderful weekend :)
ReplyDeleteHey Haute. Thanks. I think most people remember him from his days with Diddy. He's definitely come a long way since then. Oh yeah. Diddy has amazing style himself. He would only surround himself with others that do as well. I hope you have a great week. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteHey Dapper. Thanks. I did. I hope you had a great weekend too. I would love to hang out with Bentley. I think he's an amazing man.
ReplyDeleteVery suave, I truly appreciate a well dressed gent!
ReplyDeleteThank you sweetly for your caring comment, Keith, it meant a lot me.
Have an excellent day,
♥ Jessica
I most remember Fonzworth Bentley as the guy who held the umbrella for P. Diddy. But this guy does have an incredible sense of style. I wonder if a regular guy like me can get away with wearing some of that stuff?
ReplyDeleteHey Jessica. You are very welcome. Hope things are getting better there. Take care.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you liked these photos. I admire a well dressed gent. Mr. Bentley is one of my heroes out there today.
Hey Max. I think most people remember him for holding the umbrella for Diddy. He's definitely carried on since then. I know what you mean. I don't think I could pull off some of the things he wears, especially in the rural area I live in.
ReplyDeletei loveeeeeeeee Fonzworth...a perfect reflection of true style :o]
ReplyDeleteHey Terence. Thanks. Glad to see you're a fan of his too.
ReplyDeletewow, he's got some amazing style. LOVE it. Thanks for the sweet comment--so glad you enjoyed my blog! You've got a great site here.
ReplyDeleteHey Captivate. Thanks for stopping by and commenting. I'm glad you like my blog too. Yours is awesome. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteIdk if I can agree that Fonzworth Bentley is the hip hop Sammy Davis Jr. I 'm sure he has many talents but he's got a long way to go before he'll measure up to Sammy.
ReplyDeleteHey Kandi. Thanks. Great hearing from you. Oh yeah. I really like Mr. Bentley, but he's no Sammy. There will never be another Sammy.
ReplyDeletenice post... hmmm the "hip hop" sammy davis jr... im not quite sure about that, but i do like him :-)
ReplyDeleteHey Jacinda. I know what you mean. Not sure I would make that comparison either, but I do like him.
ReplyDeleteseriously, i love him. it is so hard to make menswear interresting, but he always manages to encorporate style and accessories in a way that makes him stand out. he's always creative and like you said, very dapper.
ReplyDeleteHey Mrs. M, Thanks. Glad to see you're a fan of his. He's like no other. He's never boring. I'm always amazed by what he's wearing. That's not always easy in menswear. He keeps it fresh and exciting.
