I watch the Chabad Telethon every year. It's to raise funds for a great cause. The Chabad Houses around the globe have been a real blessing in the lives of so many. They aid countless people in need, both Jews and Gentiles, through a variety of programs. Each year's telethon features wonderful stars performing on the show. This clip comes from 1986. It's Sammy Davis Jr., who was a convert to Judaism, performing The Candy Man.

Remembering Dean Martin
I hope that everyone had a great Christmas. I had a wonderful time spending the holiday with my family and friends. It is always a bittersweet day for me, however, since it was on Christmas Day in 1995 that Dean Martin passed away. I make sure to take time out each Christmas to honor the memory of the King of Cool. It's hard to believe it's been thirteen years since Dean Martin died. The world has been a less cool place ever since then. Dino does still live on though in the hearts of all his fans. We cherish so much about him and what he brings to each of us. I raise a toast to Dean Martin. Cheers!

Dean Martin - White Christmas
Here's a clip of Dean Martin from his Christmas in California special singing White Christmas. I think he does a really good job with this song. I also love his outfit and this set for this performance. Dino is definitely the man at the holidays and all year round.

Favorite Album Covers: Dean Martin - A Winter Romance
I really love the cover for A Winter Romance by Dean Martin. It's a beautiful picture of Dino and his girl (she looks so happy being with him) outside of the ski lodge on their winter holiday. We can see that the cad Dino is checking out another girl. She's got quite the smile on her face. I bet Dino's going to get double the action on this ski trip. Besides just having a nice cover, this album is also quite good. While the album does have Christmas songs on it, some of the songs are more winter related. I have this album in my collection. I love listening to it at this time of year.
P.S. Check out my latest post at Celluloid Slammer. I posted a video of Elvis Presley singing Blue Christmas. That is one of my all-time favorite Christmas tunes. I hope you'll check it out and leave me some comments there. Thanks.

Dean Martin 's Marshmallow World - Frank's There Too!
I really love hearing Dean Martin sing Marshmallow World. That's one of my favorite holiday songs. Here are two clips of Dino singing this song. The first one is Dean Martin on a Bob Hope Christmas special. I would definitely love to have a place like that decorated up for the holiday season. The other one is from The Dean Martin Variety Show. It's a duet between Dino and Frank Sinatra. I dig both versions of this song. I hope you enjoy them too.

Dean Martin - Christmas 1967 Issue Of Look Magazine
I've never come across this issue, but this is the December 26, 1967 issue of Look magazine. It's the Christmas issue for the year. It features Dean Martin on the cover. It says he talks about the Mafia, women, his drinking, Sinatra & Bobby Kennedy. I'm sure it was a really cool article. I love the pictures of Dino up here. Cheers!
P.S. Happy Birthday to Frank Sinatra! I definitely had to make sure I mentioned that. I poured myself a drink and listened to some Frankie tunes. There's nobody quite like the Chairman of the Board. He's a true legend that I love and admire greatly. I'm sure he's celebrating his birthday with his pallies at that big casino in the sky. Cheers!

Sammy Davis Jr. Does Christmas Advertising For Alka Seltzer
A recent post from my pallie Gilligan at his super cool blog Retrospace turned me on to this. I had no clue that Sammy Davis Jr. ever did any sort of advertising for Alka Seltzer. It shows that there is plenty about the Rat Pack that I don't know about. That particular post inspired me to do a post here on my blog. Here are three Christmas ads, plus a commercial for Alka Seltzer featuring Sammy as Santa. I hope you like them.
Gil's post was inspired by a post at A Christmas Yuleblog. It's such a cool holiday blog. It definitely helps put me in the Christmas spirit. I hope you'll check out both these blogs. They've got some stuff I didn't post. Enjoy!
P.S. For all those pallies looking for holiday gifts related to Dean Martin and the Rat Pack, check out the widget I set up on the top right side of my page. I've put some items in there that I really love and highly recommend. If you purchase from Amazon itself, I get a cut of it. Thanks. Cheers!

Nancy & Frank Sinatra At The Holidays
This wonderful holiday picture of Nancy and Frank Sinatra was sent to me by my pallie Mel (otherwise known as Sinatragirl). I hope you like it. I know I really do.
P.S. I accidentally deleted my blog links yesterday. I've gone back and put back in all the ones I think were previously in there. If I by chance missed your blog, please let me know and I will add you again. I'll go ahead and apologize. Thanks.

Dean Martin, Frosty The Snowman & Bing Crosby - Santa's Good Time Band
I don't really know what to write about this video clip. You've just got to watch it. I hope you enjoy it. I thought it was really awesome.

My Favorite Album Covers: Dean Martin - Christmas With Dino
I plan to mostly post Christmas items related to the Rat Pack until my last post on Wednesday, December 24th. I'm taking a holiday break after that Christmas Eve post until the following Monday, which will be December 29th. I hope you will enjoy all these Christmas posts that I am going to do. Maybe they will help put you in the holiday spirit.
I thought that I would start with some of my favorite album covers. These are the covers for the two different editions of Christmas With Dino. The first album basically collects holiday tunes from several of Dean Martin's other Christmas albums. The second one features remastered versions of his Christmas songs, plus a virtual duet (Baby, It's Cold Outside)between Dino and Martina McBride. I actually have both of these albums. I love them both. They should both be among the albums any Dean Martin fan has, plus they are great Christmas albums to listen to during the holiday season.
P.S. Please check out my latest post at Celluloid Slammer. It's a video from the Dean Martin Christmas Special in 1977. I hope you enjoy it.
P.S.S. Today is Sammy Davis Jr.'s birthday. Happy Birthday to Sam. I raise a toast to him. I'm sure he's having a party up there at that big casino in the sky. Cheers!

My Favorite Album Covers: Sammy Davis Jr. - Something For Everyone
This is definitely one of my favorite album covers from Sammy Davis Jr. He looks like a pimp daddy or something. This is one groovy album. Something For Everyone was released by Motown. Many artists of the lounge era were trying to make a transition to this new era. Some had better results than others. Sammy changed his fashion and musical styles during the 1970's. I'm actually a big fan of a lot of what he did during the 70's.
I've also included a clip that features several of the cool tunes from this album. It's about ten minutes long, but I really do hope you'll give it a listen. Sammy does a really hip version of My Way. I'm sure you've never heard this song quite the same way before. I hope you enjoy it.

Sammy Davis Jr. & Richard Nixon
Sammy Davis Jr. had always voted Democratic until he felt snubbed by JFK. His recent interracial marriage (he married May Britt on November 13, 1960) was quite controversial, so he was taken off the bill for an inauguration party thrown for Kennedy. Sammy did not forget this at all. He went on to become a big supporter of Republican Richard Nixon, even hugging President Nixon on television. Sammy even spent the night in the Queen's Bedroom of the White House. The picture I've posted here is from a meeting between Sammy and Nixon on March 4, 1973. The relationship between these two caused a huge uproar in the entertainment industry and the black community. It didn't really matter to Sammy though.

Rat Pack Art
This cool artwork of the Rat Pack was sent to me by my pallie Mia.
I think that is so fantastic looking. I really do dig it. It's awesome that Dean Martin is the center of attention in this picture as he should be. While Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. are two cool cats, Dino is the undisputed King of Cool. Cheers!

Dean Martin In Ocean's Eleven
These two pictures of Dean Martin come courtesy of my pallie Steve.
Aren't these both from Ocean's Eleven? I think so unless I'm mistaken. Cheers!
P.S. Check out my latest post at Celluloid Slammer. It actually features one of Dino's beautiful co-stars. I posted the trailer for One Million Years B.C. It doesn't get much sexier than Raquel Welch as a cave girl. Wow!

Dean Martin & His Pallies Want Some Football This Thanksgiving!
This is Dean Martin and some other fellas (I'd let you see who they are) singing Football Song on Bob Hope's Pink Panther Thanksgiving Gala in 1982. I thought this was really cool. I hope you enjoy it. I want to wish Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow Americans. I hope you will have a wonderful time however you celebrate it. I'm going to be taking a break from this blog until next Monday (which is December 1st). I want to spend some time with my family and friends during this holiday time. I hope you'll return on Monday to see what I'm posting next. Thanks. Have a great time until I see you again. Cheers!

Dean Martin & His Pallies Plan A Vegas Heist in Ocean's 11
Here's a clip from the Rat Pack heist flick Ocean's Eleven. This scene is when the pallies are discussing their plan to steal from five Vegas casinos at the stroke of midnight on New Year's. I hope you enjoy it. I really love this movie. It was so cool seeing all the Rat Packers together. Cheers!
P.S. This is not Rat Pack related at all, but I wanted to make a mention of my latest contribution to Celluloid Slammer. I posted the movie trailer for Foxy Brown. The film is a blaxploitation classic, plus it stars the sexy and tough Pam Grier. I hope you'll check out my latest post there. Please feel free to leave comments as well. Thanks.

Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra & Bing Crosby On The Radio
Here's a cool shot of Dean Martin with his pallies Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby. These three look like they are having a great time on the radio.
P.S. My pallie Dave over at his wonderful blog Planet Mondo has a really cool post you should check out. This week's edition of his regular feature Funky Friday is dubbed Cocktail Shakers. As the 60's were ending and the 70's were beginning, many of the singers who did lounge and cocktail music wanted to try to stay relevant. They covered popular songs of the day to try to be cool and hip for a new crowd. I think the results can be quite enjoyable. For example, I really dig hearing Peggy Lee cover Everyday People. It's neat to hear Vegas era singers do their own takes on the socially conscious music of the Vietnam era. I hope you'll check out this blog post and leave some comments for Dave there. Thanks. Cheers!

Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis: So Happy Together
This comes courtesy of my pallie Pinupgirl.
Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis definitely look happy in this picture. These two did make quite the comedy team together. They certainly had great chemistry. They worked well off of each other. Martin and Lewis ruled the radio, television, movies, nightclubs, etc. for a decade. They were on top of the world. They still today rank as one of the great comedy duos of all time. They are true legends that should always be remembered. I love how in this picture Jerry is looking up at Dino. You really get the feeling that Jerry admired Dino a lot. We know that Jerry needed Dino in his life more than Dino needed him. He wanted more and more of Dino. He was even jealous of Jeanne Martin. You can't really blame him though because I'm sure all of us would love to spend time with Dean Martin. I think Dino finally got tired of it all. He was ready to move on from the pressure that Jerry tried to force on him. He never looked back after that. Dean Martin truly shined as a solo entertainer, reaching greater heights than he ever did when he was with Jerry Lewis. He showed the world what it meant to be the King of Cool. Cheers!

Favorite Album Covers: Dean Martin - Sittin' On Top Of The World
It's time for another one of my favorite Dean Martin album covers. This one is Sittin' on Top of the World. I really love this image of Dino. He's looking tan and handsome. He's also dressed more casual in a nice shirt and sweater. I dig his clothes. He looks really content with his place in the world. We know that Dino was definitely sittin' on top of the world. He was after all the King of Cool. It doesn't get any better than that. Cheers!

Dean Martin's Pad In Palm Springs
Last week we had some cold and rainy days here. It was quite dreary weather. It's times like this when I'd really love to be hanging out at a pad like this one. Just imagine livin' it up with Dean Martin and his pallies at his cool digs in Palm Springs. That would be a great way to spend a weekend. Cheers!
P.S. I was invited to be a contributor at the blog Celluloid Slammer. I was very thrilled and honored to be asked. I've just put my up first post on this blog. It's one of my favorite scenes from the Matt Helm spy flick The Silencers (click on the movie title to be carried to my post). It's when Dean Martin first meets Stella Stevens. That's an introduction he'll never forgot. I plan to probably post a video clip once or twice a week there. I hope you'll come back here and there to see what else I might have posted on this blog. I definitely hope you'll check out my first post there. Please feel free to leave me some comments on my first blog post. Thanks. I appreciate it. Cheers!

Here's a clip of Tom Jones singing Fly Me to the Moon. It take scenes of Tom from both 1969 and 2007. I hope you enjoy it.
That's actually always been one of my favorite songs by Frank Sinatra. It's really cool hearing Tom's take on this classic tune. He does a really good job. I especially love the scenes from the 1969 performance. I dig that cool space age set. Cheers!

Dean Martin: What A Smile!
Check out that smile. I'll be having a huge grin on my face too if I was Dean Martin and lived the life he did. Dino really knew how to live life to the fullest. He indulged in and enjoyed the pleasures that this world had to offer. Have a great weekend. Cheers!
P.S. I think I'm going to start taking the weekends off from posting new entries up here. I hate to swamp you guys with new posts all the time. I know you've got busy lives. I'm going to continue to post on weekdays. I'll give the blog a breather on the weekends. It will also give me a chance to relax. I'll still check to see what comments I've been left, plus I'll respond to those comments. I just won't usually add any new posts during the weekend anymore. I hope that makes sense. Thanks for all your support. I appreciate it.
Dean Martin Having Fun With Shirley MacLaine & Frank Sinatra
I love this picture of Dean Martin with Shirley MacLaine and Frank Sinatra. These three look like they are having such a great time together. Dino's got a smoke in one hand, while his other arm is around Shirley's waist. Frank and Shirley both have drinks. All three have big grins on their faces. I wonder if Dino told them a joke. I bet it would have been so much fun hanging out with this crowd. Cheers!
