Michael Jackson 1958-2009

I had another post originally planned for Friday. I decided to postpone that post after hearing the news about the death of Michael Jackson.

Michael_Jackson_-_Another_Part_Of_Me3

From E! Online:
The crowns fit: Michael Jackson was the King of Pop; Elvis Presley was the King of Rock 'n' Roll. Both men commanded the pop-culture landscape, as much as the charts. Both men influenced their industry, as well as scores of artists.

And both men died suddenly and barely into middle age.

Jackson, whose lifetime of hits sold more than 750 million albums worldwide, whose landmark Thriller broke records and racial divides, whose smooth moves revolutionized dance as much as pop, and whose penchant for headline-making helped burnish his brand, and, following child-abuse allegations, helped tarnish it as well, died today after being found unconscious at his Los Angeles-area home.

Jackson suffered a heart attack around noon, according to father Joe Jackson, and never recovered. He was prounced dead at 2:26 p.m., officials said.

Music's eternal Peter Pan was 50.
I was definitely shocked by this news. I had heard earlier in the day about the passing of Farrah Fawcett. While I was sad to hear that she had died, it wasn't a shock since I knew she was dying from cancer. The death of Michael Jackson came as a complete shock to me though. He's never been my favorite singer. There were other singers that I enjoyed much more when I was growing up. His Thriller and Bad albums still were albums that I listened to all the time back in the 80's when I was a teenager. Michael Jackson was an incredibly talented entertainer, even though criminal allegations, weird behavior & the like seemed to overshadow it all. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends & fans.

P.S. I did a post about the death of Farrah Fawcett at my Sugar & Spice blog if you would like to check it out and leave me some comments there. Thanks.

Hey Proudly. I'm glad you are doing well. Take good care of yourself and Mr. Freddy.

I was stunned by the death of Michael Jackson. It just shows that none of us know when it's our time. Death can hit any of us no matter who we are.

RIP Michael, he was pretty hot in his younger brown days.

Hey Amy. I know what you mean. It's a shame that he went through all the changes he did.

I couldn't believe that he passed away when I heard it on my way to work tonight. Such a tragedy to lose him and Farrah Fawcett on the same day.

Wow. Two huge celebrity icons have died on the same day... very, very odd.... and sad. :-(

Keith said...

Hey Gabbi. Thanks. It is such a shame. Thriller came out around the time I was hitting my teens.

Keith said...

Hey Allison. I know what you mean. It's so sad that we lost him and Farrah both on the same day.

Keith said...

Hey Gil. I agree. It's not often that we lose two celebs on the same day. Both of them are stars that I remember from my youth.

This is so shocking. His music is the soundtrack to my youth too!

Hey Liz. I know what you mean. I grew up listening to his music. Plus I watched the Jackson 5 cartoon when I was a kid.

Keith said...

Hey Carlotta. I was really shocked by hearing of his death. I would not have imagined it.

Keith said...

Hey Mirko. So true. He was such a talent. He never seemed to have a sense of direction in his life.

Hey Dave. I know what you mean. Everything else aside, he was a great entertainer and will be missed by his fans around the world.

Hey Gingey. Thanks. I know what you mean. At least maybe now he can find some peace. His life was so full of ups and downs.

I did like his work with the Jackson 5 and in the 80s. The videos in the 80s on MTV were top music entertainment of the time. I also just recalled his work on "We are the World" ... he was very talented ...

Keith said...

Hey Jim. Thanks. That's how I am. I loved his work with his brothers. I was a big fan of them. I also was a fan of his earlier albums. That music was the music of my youth. He's a pop culture icon.

Hey pallie Keith, no disrespect meant to Mr. Jackson, but the article you posted never even mentioned the most important King....our Dino...the King of Cool...

P.S. You have a typo in your post title ~ thought you'd want to know.

Keith said...

Hey pallie DMP. Hahaha Of course, he is the most important king, but obviously that article wouldn't mention him. :-)

Keith said...

Hey Carrie. Oops. Thanks for mentioning that to me. I'll correct it now.

It's horrible to see both Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett pass away - and on the same day no less! Two icons that are no more. R.I.P.

i know, it was so shocking. and while i wasn't a die-hard MJ fan, i still feel like there's some sort of gap in the world now...it's really surreal.

I heard he had been taken to hospital late yesterday evening UK time, but didn't think I'd wake up to hear he'd passed away. While I'm not really a fan of his music, I recognise he was a genius and that he touched the lives of millions. He also did a whole lot of good during his time amongst us, and will still be remembered when the rest of us are long gone. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Keith said...

Hey Erika. Thanks. It was sad to hear of both of their deaths. It was a shock that they happened on the same day.

Keith said...

Hey Esther. Thanks. Yeah, I liked his music, but I wasn't the biggest fan of his. I actually grew up being a bigger fan of Prince. It's still sad that he's gone from this world now.

Keith said...

Hey Steve. Thanks. I didn't hear anything about what was going on until I saw that he had actually died. I was stunned. I couldn't believe it. I liked his music. I grew up hearing it all the time. I wasn't the biggest fan though. It's still a shame about what happened. He's a legend and an icon. His music will live on forever.

My sister was about to see his concert in London in 2 weeks. She was always joking that either he will delete the concert or she'll lose the tickets or the airline will go bankrupt. But his death was something that nobody expected. My sister (12 yo older) was a great fan of him, she attended nearly every concert he had in the distance of 500 km and she was able to stay about two days in front of the concert hall just to have the best places, so my childhood was bit about MJ, too. And I am glad, it was, because he was great. Thanks for the memorial, Keith.

Keith said...

Hey Kristyna. Thanks for those wonderful comments. I'm so sorry that your sister will not be able to see this show. That's great though that she did see him quite often. She sounds like a big fan. I'm glad you liked what I posted. Thanks again. Take care. Cheers!
