Rat Pack Style: How To Fold A Pocket Square

973926~Frank-Sinatra-Studio-Posters

I've been checking out a lot of fashion blogs. While many of them primarily deal with women's fashion, they still have inspired me to start posting at times about fashion and style. One thing I've always loved about the Rat Pack is that cool style they always had. Whether they were dressed in a suit or more casually, Dean, Frank & the other guys always looked great. There are many male stars of today who are trying to emulate that look. Part of living that Rat Pack lifestyle is looking cool and at the top of your game. I plan to start doing some posts that will help any of us reach that goal. The latest issue of
GQ had an article about folding a pocket square. The article actually featured a picture of Frank Sinatra. I thought that was really cool. It was a small article and not much to post here. It did influence me to do my own post about the topic. I don't get a chance to dress up that often, but I thought pocket squares was a good place to start talking about style.

Here is a short video (under a minute) from Details on how to fold a pocket square:

I also wanted to post a graphic that I found at Belisi. It features quite a few different folds that we can use.

I hope you got something out of this post. I enjoyed putting it together. These tips can help any of us learn how to dress more cool and suave, just like those hip cats in the Rat Pack. Let me know what you think.

P.S. If you've been checking out and commenting on this blog, I hope you will add a link to this blog in your blog links if you don't mind. I would really appreciate that. Please let me know if you do. I might already have your blog listed in mine, but if I don't then I'll definitely add yours as well. Thanks so much.

And here's me thinking that you just fold it up any old way! There's clearly a lot to learn. But thankfully I don't have to worry about it - might pass this post on to the other half though!

Hey Cocktails. Thanks for the comments. I'm sure even most guys thought that. It is neat that there are different ways of doing a fold. I like that. It helps us be a little more stylish. Definitely pass this post on to anybody you know. Cheers!

This is an outstanding post! This is something certainly worthwhile to be discussing on your blog. I'll have to mention this post to my husband. He had to dress nicely for work. It might give him some ideas.

I think I've always done the Cooper or the Puff, but without as much thought in it. I usually just kinda stuff the kerchief in the pocket. I'm such a classless guy.

That is really cool - I wish all guys would dress more like this, or at least use this when they dressed up :) Great post Keith!
And I'm glad you enjoyed Make Me a Supermodel - it's really fun!
Have a great week!

Funny, I just did a post which mentions how, back in the day, folks shined their shoes, wore hats and pressed and fitted suits, starched collars, etc... and now most everyone looks like they just rolled out of bed.

Folding a pocket square is an art. Great post.

There's nothing like a pocket square to up the ante on your classiness. People that wear them are just automatically cool. Great post, K!

Very cool post, putting a little time and effort into your appearance can help a lot - not only in endeavors with your preferred gender but as a little self confidence boost as well.

For any guys wanting to capture some hipness or tune into what attracts the ladies attention - just remember, always start with the very basics! Being clean, smelling clean and looking clean is a *big* attractor. Watch your breath, teeth and hands especially. Everything else is wrapping paper!

Hi Keith,

If you're going to be posting tidbits like these often, I'll make sure anyone I plan on dating is subscribed. Nothing worse than getting all dolled up for a date and the guy showing up in a t-shirt and jeans. Thanks for bringing class back to the world.

Hey Robert. Thanks for the comments. Whenever I've done it, I've usually done just a fold like the one in that video. I have done the Cooper. Cheers!

Hey Allison. Thanks for the comments. It was nice hearing from you. Glad you enjoyed this post. I had fun putting it together. I agree with you. I do wish that guys would definitely be inspired to dress better whenever they have to dress up. I don't get a chance to do it very often, but I want to look my best. Hope your week has started off well. Cheers!

Thanks Scott. Glad you liked it. I thought it would be helpful to us guys.

Keith said...

Hey Gil. Thanks. I think men really put a lot more effort into how they looked in the past. I was looking at some guys and girls the last few days. I wasn't really impressed with how any of them were dressed. They all looked like they had just rolled out of bed and threw on whatever they saw first. It's a shame we've de-evolved in many ways.

Keith said...

Thanks Esther. I appreciate your comments. I do think a pocket square really adds a punch to a suit. It can even make a cheaper suit look more snazzy. Cheers!

Hey Steph. Thanks for the comments. I appreciate them. It was nice hearing from you. I'm glad you enjoyed this post.

Fashion and style are very important. Our appearance does matter in how others view us. I think it also makes us feel better about ourselves.

It's not just about wearing a nice suit. You can be dressed up nice, but if you haven't taken a bath, put on deodorant, brushed your teeth, etc. then a person has failed miserably.

Keith said...

Hey Erma. Thanks. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I do hope to post more things like this in the future. I think it's important. Dino, Frank, etc. always looked so snazzy. It didn't matter whether they were in a tux or something more casual. I think so many people today don't care about their appearance. They throw on any old thing. It's important that men and women dress the best they can. It's not just dressing up either. It's grooming as well. I've come across quite a few people of both genders that smell terrible.

Frank could fold a pocket square better than anyone and he frequently gave away his orange ones to fans at his concerts.

Keith said...

Hey Mel. Thanks for sharing that with me. I definitely think Frank was a master at the pocket square. That's so cool about him giving away those to his fans.
