The Unholy Trinity Of Vincent Price, Peter Cushing & Christopher Lee

lee-cushing-price

My sister and I have often talked about the Unholy Trinity. You don't know about the Unholy Trinity? Let me clear that up for you. That to us is Vincent Price, Peter Cushing & Christopher Lee. These three actors are horror legends and icons. They all three played in some of my favorite horror films of all time. Any movie they were ever in, whether the movie was good or not, was improved by their screen presence. There is just something incredible and magnificent about each of these men.

Only one of these three, Christopher Lee, is still among the living. I do wish I could go back in time and have dinner with these horror greats. I could just imagine the conversation and atmosphere. Even though I'm almost a 4o year old man, I'd probably act like a tween girl going crazy for some boy band. lol

I'm posting some pictures, videos & information about each of them. I wanted to share my love for the Unholy Trinity at this spooktacular time of year. So do you like any of these men? Are there any movies of theirs that you like? Do you even know who any of them are? I do hope so. Let me know what you think.

Hello Keith. I adore all three of these actors. They play in my favorite kind of horror films. I have a special place for them.

I absolutely adore these posts you've been doing about old horror movies - they are making me more and more excited for Halloween. I've always found House on Haunted Hill to be phenomenally frightening! :)

Agree with you completely. This is a fab post.

Iconic actors, and what a trinity indeed.

p.s. following you, your intelligent posts are a must read!

ha the Unholy Trinity! How cute i love it. But not as much as I love my forever boyfriend Vincent Price!!! idk what it is about old men, but they are just so adorable i want to gobble them up with a spoon. i call them all my boyfriends but Vincent Price (along with Stan Lee) have always been my aces. He especially melted my heart in Edward Scissorhands. If only he were around today, I wonder how the world of cinema would be different.

To be honest I had never heard of the Unholy Trinity! But I love all these pics and clips and have actually seen some of the films in which these gents starred!

Fab post, K!

Hey Mrs. M. Thanks. I'm so glad you enjoyed this post. Yeah, the "Unholy Trinity" is what my sis Steph and I always called them. She loves Vincent Price too. I definitely miss him. I wish he was still around today.

Keith said...

Hey Carrie. My sis Steph and I made up the name "Unholy Trinity." It was our way of honoring these three horror icons. Glad to see you've enjoyed some of their movies.

Three great icons of horror and all my favorites actors of mine. Sir Christopher might be a bit "cool" in real life, he dosen't suffer fools lightly but is a wonderful commentater on DVDs and has great stories of his friends Cushing and Price and i've heard Peter and Vincent were great guys and charming in real life.
Great post Keith. :)

Keith said...

Hey Drake. Thanks for commenting. So great to see that you're a fan of these three actors. I think they are all amazing. I definitely wouldn't want to get on Sir Christopher's bad side. I bet these men would have been great to have over for dinner.

JamiSings said...

I love all three, though probably Price the most as I first knew him through PBS Mystery. I loved watching the Sherlock Holmes episodes with Jeremy Brett. Diana Rigg just could not do as good a job on that show.

Peter Cushing - every time I hear that name I get the Jelly Botty's song Peter Cushing Lives In Whitstable stuck in my head.

Kinezoe said...

Hey, Keith! It was nice to see you in my blog again. I enjoyed the text on the «Unholy Trinity», a very interesting post. They all were great, the greatest in horror movies.

I acknowledge that I've seen few Vincent Price movies, but I love his voice in "Thriller" song by Michael Jackson ;-)
"The Curse of Frankenstein" and "Dracula" are both two wonderful Peter Cushing movies.
And no-one like Christopher Lee to play "Dracula".

Maybe only Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi to complete the horror pack...

Scary greetings! Good week, my friend! ;-)

Peter Cushing was SO amazing, love all the movies he did :) Hope you're having a wonderful weekend.

Wow! Talk about epic posts!!! Yes, these men are/ were utter legends!!! They were also, as you say, very fine actors without a doubt! The only other one I can think of in this league is Bela Lugousi (pardon the terrible spelling!). Although I'm not so familiar with him so perhaps I'm wrong....hope your weekend is going well and all the best for your coming week! P.S. I can't quite make out your new avatar there - is it something football related...?

Oh cool!! I have actually never heard of these gents *blushing* but I am a wimp when it comes to movies so I usually steer clear of horror flicks. However, I have heard of a lot of their movies... these guys really are legends!

Love this post, a while back I paid tribute to these gentlemen of gore...They still reign supreme.

Great stuff Keith you've really done them justice. Theatre Of Blood is possibly my fave Vincent film.

Oh, my boys, my boys. I LOVE THEM ALL!!!! They are very unholy, but kings of cinema. Of course, you already know my favorite Vincent Price. I can't believe in high school I started running up on his movies and feel head over heels for this sinister man. But what can I say I have a little bit of the darkside in me too. :) Also, Christopher Lee he is just perfect and I can't believe what a huge presence he has had on film these days. And Peter nobody can mistake him look at that face. I always loved his jaws and how his cheeks sunk in. :) LOVE THE POST!!!!!

Keith said...

Hey Jami. Thanks for stopping by and commenting. I appreciate it. Vincent Price is the first one I knew as a kid. Then I discovered both Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee since they did so many movies together. I remember Cushing from the first Star Wars movie.

Keith said...

Hey Kinezoe. Thanks. I'm happy you enjoyed this post. I had fun putting it together. I'm a huge fan of these three horror legends. I always loved the song and video for Thriller. Cushing and Lee did so many great movies together. I loved Lee as Dracula. I've actually got a post coming up that will deal with Boris and Bela.

Keith said...

Hey Sam. Thanks. I'm really glad you enjoyed this post. I had a lot of fun doing this one. I'm a big fan of these three horror legends. I knew I had to cover them at Halloween. All three were/are amazing actors. I actually am posting about Bela Lugosi this week. I'm doing a post on Universal monsters. My new avatar is from the Bond film On Her Majesty's Secret Service. I wanted a change up. I had just watched that film again not long ago.

Keith said...

Hey Clare. Thanks for commenting even though you've never heard of these three men. That's okay that horror movies scare you. They did make some really good ones. They all played in some other films as well. Christopher Lee is still alive and making movies to this day.

Keith said...

Hey Gingey. Thanks. Yeah, these three still reign on the top of the horror genre to me.

Hey Dave. Thanks. I appreciate that. I love Theatre of Blood.

Hey Steph. Thanks so much. I appreciate your feedback. I knew you would love this post since you are such a big fan of these three horror legends as well. I always knew that Vincent was your favorite. You've definitely seen a lot of his movies. Peter did always have those distinctive cheekbones. It is cool that Christopher is still around and making lots of movies. Thanks again. Glad you enjoyed this post so much.

The Unholy Trinity... What a wonderful title! I love these three. Horror Kings, Masters of Evil... I love their movies especially Vincent Price. I love this piece you did on them. They deserve this sort of recognition for what they brought into the horror film industry. I, too, would be acting like a tween girl gone nuts for her favorite boy band if I could have had dinner with all three of them!

p.s. Thanks for the promotion of my blog!! You are so sweet! :)

Keith said...

Hey Daniela. Thanks for commenting. I'm so glad you enjoyed this post. I definitely wanted to give these horror greats some proper attention and respect this Halloween. They totally deserve it. You are very welcome about my mention of your blog.

The one that immediately comes to mind for me is Horror Express with both Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing. Scared the crap outta me when I was younger. It would probably be fairly lame now but no doubt still a good scare in spots.

Thinking about it Cushing and Lee both came across as naturally creepy, where with Price (for me) the creepiness didn't run as deep. My .02, your mileage may vary.

Good post, BTW.
